Miami Family 10: Ten Ways to Make Memories

A family of four gathers round a " Proud Redhawk Family" Sign

Get excited for Family Weekend! As you plan time with your Miami student, explore ten ways to make memories in between Family Weekend events.

  1. Find it. Find popular landmarks on campus, such as Upham Arch, the Seal, and the turtle heads on the Sundial. Learn more about campus traditions and landmarks to explore while on campus!
  2. Taste it. Try a classic Tuffy’s Toasted Roll at Pulley Diner in Armstrong Student Center or grab your student’s favorite sweet treat.
  3. Experience it. Stroll through campus and experience your student’s day-to-day life. Visit their academic buildings, study spots, and more.
  4. Rep it. While on campus, rep Miami red and white! Looking for something new? Check out Brick and Ivy Campus Store!
  5. Observe it. Find your student’s favorite campus view; you’ll likely find some wildlife or observe a beautiful sunrise or sunset too. There’s a reason Robert Frost described Miami as “The most beautiful campus that ever there was.”
  6. Eat it. Have a meal at your student’s favorite spot on campus; your student may have guest swipes as part of their dining plan. Check out dining locations on campus!
  7. Explore it. Visit one place on campus neither of you have been to before. Campus has quite a few hidden gems, such as museums, natural areas, the Freedom Summer 1964 Memorial, the Cradle of Coaches, and more!
  8. Capture it. Take a family photo to commemorate your weekend. Use #MiamiOHFamilyWeekend and tag @MiamiUniversity on social media for a chance to be featured! Stop by photo opportunities at the Welcome Center on Friday, Oct. 16 in the Armstrong Student Center and explore photo spots across campus.
  9. Ask it. Ask your student something about their Miami experience that you've never asked before. You could ask what fun things they have done in Oxford, how they have pushed themselves out of their comfort zone, or what clubs and organizations they are enjoying most this semester!
  10. Meet it. From friends to faculty and staff, meet the people who have become part of your student’s community here. You can even meet President and Dr. Crawford at Lewis Place on Saturday, Oct. 17 for M.O.V.E Bootcamp with the Crawfords!
